Dr Tom Cawthorne, Clinical Psychologist

Dr Tom Cawthorne is a Clinical Psychologist at The Soke in Chelsea. He specialises in working with children, adolescents and their families, and is experienced in conducting complex multidisciplinary assessments and delivering a range of evidence-based psychological therapies.

Focussing on young people with neurodevelopmental conditions, Tom provides adapted psychological interventions for the co-occurring mental health problems commonly experienced by his clients, including anxiety, Tics/Tourette’s and OCD.

He provides personalised, evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT), family therapy and parent training. Tom also supports young people with anorexia, providing CBT for Eating disorders (CBT-E), Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa (FT-AN) and therapeutic meal support.

Tom is currently the Senior Clinical Psychologist in the National Conduct Adoption and Fostering Clinic at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, he provides complex multidisciplinary assessments and interventions for young people who are adopted, fostered or have complex behavioural difficulties.

He is also a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, where he works as part of a highly specialist clinic for children and adolescents with medically unexplained symptoms, complex OCD, anxiety disorders, and mental health difficulties in the context of physical health diagnoses.

Tom is an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. He is actively involved in research, teaching and training, including lecturing at Kings College London and being a trainer in Mentalization Based Treatment with Families (MBT-F) at the Anna Freud Centre.
