Dr Nicole Horwitz, Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician

With over 25 years of experience as an NHS paediatrician, and over 15 years as an NHS Consultant, Dr Nicole specialises in complex neurodevelopmental assessments for autism and ADHD. She completed her medical training at Cambridge University and Imperial College London and has a degree in Psychology (Cambridge University) and an MSc in Community Child Health (Institute of Child Health, UCL).

After qualification, Dr Horwitz continued her paediatric training in the North London region, including specialist paediatric neurodisability training at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has been a Consultant Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician in Islington, working for Whittington Health NHS Trust, since 2008. She has also worked as a consultant in the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Clinic at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Dr Horwitz has extensive clinical experience in neurodevelopmental paediatrics. This includes expertise in diagnostic assessments for autism and ADHD, developmental assessments, the treatment of ADHD, developmental coordination disorder, physical disability and management of Down Syndrome. She has worked with a wide range of families, providing holistic care across the neurodiversity spectrum.

Dr Horwitz has also worked as the Designated Medical Officer for Education in Islington since 2008 and has detailed knowledge of SEND and EHCP processes. She leads the paediatric ADHD service in Islington, working closely with Islington CAMHS. Much of her work is within multi-disciplinary teams, where she works alongside other experienced health care professionals, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists and child and adolescent psychiatrists. She is trained in the use of ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule), ADI (Autism Diagnostic Interview) and Griffiths Mental Development Scales.

Dr Horwitz was a member of the panel for the ADHD NICE Guideline (NG 87) 2018. She has membership of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), British Association of Community Child Health (BACCH), British Association of Childhood Disability (BACD) and Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group (DSMIG).

She teaches locally and nationally and has been an invited speaker at national conferences, speaking on a range of topics relating to autism and ADHD.
